I

It should have been the simplest theme. And yet writing "I" as a Shot may have been one of our most difficult ones so far. Wonder what that says about us :p

spell
god
in
one
letter.

-Jason

it became blurry
and blotchy
under torrential rain.
drop after drop
it flowed
from my eyes
and my nose.
until there was none
but the knowledge:
I am nothing
without my Dream.

Light

Word-ka Shots crosses a new milestone!
10,000+ page views from people like YOU who have loved us over the last year and a half. You've kept us going for better or worse.
We decided to make light of the moment and celebrate the only way we can. With Shots on the spot. We gave ourselves five minutes (no peeking), and came up...with this.
 Cheers!

An indignant child
got the moon he asked for
in a basin full of water.

I'm as indignant
when it comes to you
but for me
well placed mirrors
will do the trick.

keep your windows
open
to dust.
only then,
can you see
light.

Infinity

April being the cruelest month and all, we got our old pal Rakhee Panth in as Guest Writer to shake things up. She has a refreshing style, different from both your faithful writers.
I could go on and on. But I'll let the Shots do the talking.

Sapphire sky
(New moon hung low)
A fear
it will be restless red again.

Whoever said
The journey of a thousand miles
Begins,
with a single step

 -Rakhee

we walk together
lock, stock, baggage
and all.
they smirk,
and wonder
how far we'll go.
the end
of the world.

and a little more.

Night

What happens in the dark;
rarely stays in the dark.

 -Jason

when tired rules
are put to rest
and Pain and Trouble
come grudgingly to bed
finer things will rise
and come to life
behind closed eyes.
day after day,
I wait for that time.

Audacity

A little love from Word-ka Shots reader, Prakriti (see her comment here) got us SO kicked, we had the audacity to put everything else on hold and take up her suggestion for this week's shot.

Many thanks and Cheers, Prakriti!

Wherever they go,
 "The audacity
muffled whispers
of broken hearts
will follow them.
to love again."

-Jason

they beat them
all
out of me.
and yet,
everyday
I go to sleep.
in the hope
that tonight,
again,
I will dream.

Broken

i said
       -- catch--
before realizing
i was playing with myself.

 -Jason

by night
I walk on clouds
made of words;
your words
spoken over and over
on my chin
my feet
my tongue
my teeth.
By day
I see fluff;
the stuff
my dreams were made of
is on the floor.

Forbidden

you can see it
in the way he looks at him
it is clear
like glass
almost invisible at times
and as present
but this Adam
is deeply aware
and afraid
of shame
as this time
there is no Eve
to bear the blame.
-Jason

My naïve eyes
are held hostage
by your trained glance.
I pull away.
And fix them
on something pretty.
Damsels in Distress
do not
lust for Villains

Call

We're calling on you to guess again. Think you know us? Tell us who wrote which. And this time, tell us why you think so too...

After fearing it
And failing it
And turning it down,
It found us.
On a crackling line
And a borrowed call.
We didn't say much.
You called
Only
To hear my voice.

 all souls wait
(patiently)
for  tremors
that reverberate
through the essence
of who we are.

some immortal words
can bind two souls
but both must
only if
both answer the call.

Rust

.Sometimes a thing could be said to possess life because it shows signs of decay

.Here's our take on rust. Let us know what you think

    They cast you
    in a different die
    and you outshone us
    with twisted smiles,
    replaced us
    with metallic lies,
    and left us
    stone faced and debased.

    With no choice,
    we prayed to God-

    and He sent us rain.

-Jason

 Bright, defiant, bold.
    And yet, not red;
    She colored neglected benches
    and pipes in the shed.
    Painted a grin of dust
    On their surly heads.

    Still, everybody looks
    At Rain in awe.
    And Rust
    is always looked down upon.

New

   Flipping over
the last few pages
made me evolve.

But;
From books we are
and to books we shall return.

-Jason

    Two roads diverged
    in a wood
    And everyone
    rushed
    to take
    the road less traveled by

    I chose
    the beaten path
    and decided
    to leave  new footprints
    behind.
